1. 🤑 Your income to happiness graph is not linear: Time isn't money

People often assume that they will be happier if they just made more money. As Alex Hormozi once said, "Money only solves money problems, then you are left with problems that money cannot solve".

I have met and worked with plenty of extremely rich people, including a private equity and hedge fund billionaire, but I have never met somebody who reached their 'number'.

Money can become a prison, a perpetual need for growth that shackles you to work.

This article helps keep me focused on my actual goal: freedom.

Here is a quote from the article:

We have this 1:1 perception of income and satisfaction. If I make X amount of money, I will receive Y amount of satisfaction. Our idea of the income and life satisfaction graph looks something like this: We think that quadrupling our income will quadruple our happiness, but that’s not true.

Satisfaction deriving from money is not linear, it suffers from diminishing marginal returns. When do you shift from focusing on money to focusing on the things that bring you true fulfilment? Everybody is different, and this is something I help all of my clients with on an individual basis. Knowing when - logically - is one thing, truly feeling ready when it is time and understanding how to do it is quite different.

2. 🌹 Poem I am enjoying

I am a fan of poetry. Not only do you find absolute gems of wisdom written exceptionally well, but poetry is a masterclass in copywriting - how to say more in less. I have written poetry under a pseudonym for a long time and enjoy it immensely.

I recently rediscovered this poem, one of my Mum's favourites, and thought it worthwhile to share with you all.

Dust if you must, by Rose Milligan

Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed;
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there’s not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;
Music to hear, and books to read;
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world’s out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go (and go you must)
You, yourself, will make more dust.

3. 💡 Quote I'm pondering

"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities" - Stephen Covey
